The French oak is quite prominent and is felt in the wine's tannins and heft...Smoke, leather, licorice and a host of other dark aromas and flavors wrap around the muscular finish.

The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva di Fizzano also sees small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at the back of bright Sangiovese. This expression delivers extra weight and concentration with savory notes of dark spice, tobacco, wet earth, pressed violets and forest berry. Oak renderings add to the wine's powerful finish.

Last year, this wine was a Riserva (now it is a Gran Selezione). The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva di Fizzano shows ample fullness and ripeness with dark cherry and spice aromas that are both compelling and generous. This wine shows a good sense of lightness and balance. It is easy to drink and approachable, but it also offers bigger structure to pair with succulent meat dishes.

Riserva di Fizzano is always an impressive wine, and the 2007 vintage has produced an especially generous, soft and rich bottling. It delivers aromas of bright cherry, soft spice, chocolate, pipe tobacco and a pretty flower accent at the back. It would pair with pork roasted with fennel seed and garlic.
