I have always loved Montefalco Rosso and think it is one of the most underappreciated appellations in Italy. Sangiovese is blended with a smaller part Sagrantino, thus creating a delicate marriage between finesse and power. The 2009 Montefalco Rosso Riserva Lampante shows the depth and overall potential of this promising red blend from Umbria. This wine is particularly well managed with firm but pleasant tannins and enduring aromas of dark fruit, spice, smoke and crushed granite. This Riserva expression is light years ahead in terms of overall quality and importance next to the easy base Rosso from the same vintage.
Blue flower, ripe berry and baking spice aromas unfold in the glass of this blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Cabernet and Merlot. The juicy palate delivers black cherry, vanilla, cinnamon and espresso alongside bracing tannins.
A well-meshed, medium-bodied red, with refined tannins and a creamy mix of plumped cherry, dried raspberry and spice box, underscored by a subtle accent of loamy earth. Drink now through 2022.
