A balanced red with currants and cedar and lightly toasted wood. Full body, with velvety tannins and bright finish. Slightly hollow mid-palate but should fill in. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc.

Deep ruby. Very ripe aromas of dark berries, tomato confit and botanical herbs, with mocha and sweet herb nuances adding complexity. Lush, sweet and expansive, offering cassis and cherry-vanilla flavors nicely framed by smooth tannins. Very approachable already, but this wine's fruit-driven, almost syrupy-ripe personality may not appeal to those who prefer more classically styled Bordeaux blends.

...Grilled herbs, plums, cassis, mint and graphite are just some of the nuances that flow from this pretty red...from Planeta, one of Sicily's better-known estates.

Dark red cherries, plums, tobacco, espresso and licorice take shape in the glass. The tannins are a bit firm, but there is more than enough fruit to stand up to the wine's textural elements. Sweet, perfumed notes laced with Cabernet Franc character develop on the finish, adding lift, perfume and finesse.

Aromas of fresh herb, currant and berry follow throught to a medium palate, with clean-cut, oaky fruit flavors. Balanced and tight.

The 2011 Burdese represents a 70/30 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and the wine is dedicated to the many French influences that have shaped Sicilian viticulture over the centuries. This is a dark and impenetrable wine that is packed tight with brooding dark fruit and thick aromas of prune and plum. The wine flaunts a dense and richly extracted style. Evident aromas of tobacco, Spanish cedar, barbecue smoke and tar appear at the back.
