The full black cherry and ripe redcurrant fruit is lit up by the fresh acidity and (in a positive sense) herbal tannins on the powerful palate. Still youthful, this proves the potential of the grape in Israel. From vines planted at 650 meters altitude. Drink or hold. -J.S.

The 2019 Marselan Reserve was aged for 12 months in 25% new French oak and comes in at 13.3% alcohol. Suave, flavorful and bright, this is a very elegant Marselan, but it doesn't sacrifice much flavor. It does dance across the tongue, and it still seems to have respectable concentration with some strawberries mingled with herbs. It is relatively expressive in its youth. Overall, this is once again beautifully done this year. It will be interesting to see how it develops, but I predict that it will over the next few years. You can drink this now, but it will likely be better this time next year. This will be released in July. -M.S.

This deep-violet-red-colored wine has aromas of raspberry preserves, lilac and pie crust. Deep-seated tannins seem strong at first, but acidity takes hold on the palate, with flavors of pomegranate, strawberry, black cherry and Mediterranean herbs. The finish is notable for a zippy splash of Seville orange.

The 2016 Marselan Reserve was aged for 11 months in 40% new French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. This shows fine depth for the grape this year, while retaining most of its typical elegance and freshness. Velvety in texture and lush in mouthfeel, it eventually becomes more interesting when the acidity and structure fight back. There's fine grip on the finish. The fruit pops up too, with those tasty, fresh red-fruit nuances. Could this be Recanati's best-yet Marselan? I'm thinking "yes." It's worth leaning up just now. It does have to show some improvement in the cellar to justify my enthusiasm.

The 2015 Marselan Reserve was aged for six months in 40% new French barriques. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. I really like what Recanti is doing with this grape. This is a good example. Showing bright red fruit, it shows finesse in the mid-palate, seeming very elegant, but it has a backbone, persistence and a lingering finish, with lifted fruit. The lively nature and fresh flavors here might be enhanced if you just try this a bit cooler than normal.

Inky garnet to the eye, this wine features aromas of cherry and strawberry with a strong dose of violet. Although it has strong flavors of lightly cooked woodland fruits (including notes of vanilla, brambles and soft citrus) it is bright and retains a grip on the palate from start to finish. Lasting tannins are ever present yet not overpowering. The finish is characterized by flavors of tangerine and baking spices. Kosher.
