A rich red, juicy and aromatic, with plush tannins and a ripe mix of raspberry coulis, mocha, star anise and singed orange peel. Bright, offering a spicy, mineral-laced finish. Drink now through 2027.
Lovely balance and plush tannins make this dense red more accessible, highlighting flavors of black cherry puree, licorice drop, herbed olive and smoke. The long finish is well-spiced and chewy. Drink now through 2024.
The 2009 Montefalco Sagrantino Carapace is showing nicely during this moment of its evolution. The tannins have integrated and although this is a decisively structured wine, it is not an astringent wine. In fact, it is just about as silky and smooth as I have tasted for Sagrantino. The bouquet shows dried fruit aromas with cassis and dried cherry at the front. Background tones include spice, leather and crushed granite.
