The 2010 Gattinara is a firm, classically austere wine with persistent tannins and a slightly compact personality. It will be interesting to see if the 2010 puts on weight in bottle, or if the tannins soften, as today, the wine is very much shut down. Sweet dried cherries, tobacco, crushed herbs and dried flowers add shades of nuance through the middle and finish. I have seen Travaglini wines blossom with age before, although I don't really see that happening here.
The 2009 Gattinara Riserva is a wine for the exceedingly patient. Huge swaths of tannin cut across a huge core of fruit in a Gattinara endowed with serious depth, resonance and intensity. Dark red cherry, orange rind, cloves, mint and saddle leather meld together in an exotic fabric of enticing aromas and flavors. Don't be fooled, though, the tannins are imposing and need time to soften. The 2009 Riserva is one of the best wines I can remember tasting from Travaglini in some time.

The 2006 Gattinara Tre Vigne is made in a richer, deeper style than the straight Gattinara. There is plenty of richness and body here.
Sweet floral aromatics emerge from the 2006 Gattinara. This deceptively medium-bodied wine shows good depth in its red fruit. It is an attractive, representative Gattinara well-suited for drinking over the next few years.
The 2006 Gattinara Riserva is one of the best wines I have tasted from Travaglini in a very long time. Dark red fruit, flowers, mint, spices and licorice are among the many notes that flow from this inviting, beautifully balanced wine. The Riserva impresses for its textural brilliance and totally captivating personality. It is simply dazzling, and flat-out delicious.
The 2009 Nebbiolo Coste della Sesia is a terrific entry-level wine with expressive aromatics, well-delineated fruit and gorgeous overall balance at this level. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red cherries and spices linger on the pointed, energetic finish. This is a fabulous effort.
Gattinara (a pure expression of Nebbiolo) offers many of the aromatic characteristics one normally associates with Barbaresco and Barolo, two of Italy's greatest red wines. There are tones of small berry, cola, tar and licorice. The wine is tight and fresh overall and cleans the palate very well.
The 2005 Gattinara is a pretty, mid-weight Nebbiolo. Sweet cherries, tobacco, herbs and crushed flowers are some of the notes that emerge from this classy, refined red. The Gattinara is a somewhat fleeting, ethereal wine, but it has the freshness and firmness to age well for at least another decade. This entry-level Gattinara possesses tons of varietal character in a translucent, weightless expression that is typical of the appellation. This is a lovely set of new releases from Travaglini, one of the benchmark producers in Gattinara. The wines seem to have acquired an additional level of finesse in recent years.
The 2005 Gattinara Riserva possesses more depth, richness and sheer stuffing than the regular bottling. Incense, tar, wild cherries and herbs are some of the nuances that come to life in this powerful Gattinara. Another few years in bottle should allow the tannins to soften and the fruit to emerge with even greater authority. This is a lovely set of new releases from Travaglini, one of the benchmark producers in Gattinara. The wines seem to have acquired an additional level of finesse in recent years.
Harmonious and smooth, this ruby-colored Nebbiolo from the 2001 vintage shows an excellent evolution of aromas. Fresh fruit notes have turned into dried berry and the smoke and wood elements are well integrated. The wine ends with polished tannins and bright acidity.
This Nebbiolo from Gattinara offers a firm and compact nose with aromas of wild cherries, cola and mesquite wood. The 2004 vintage shows harmony and balance with intense flavors of cherry and black fruit on the finish. The polished tannins keep the wine's texture firm and solid.
Here's a light and tonic expression of Nebbiolo (in a specially designed curvy bottle) with pretty aromas of wild berries, moist earth and forest floor. The color is a light and lumninous ruby and the mouthfeel is equally streamlined and fresh. Firm tannins and intense flavors of smoke and cedar build momentum on the palate.
Here's a beautifully aged expression of Nebbiolo with polished aromas of blackberry, cola and scented candle. Background aroms of pressed flowers and potpourri emerge after a few minutes in the glass and the wine evolves nicely in the mouth as well thanks to its silky tannins and natural acidity.
Bright medium-deep red with less brick than the entry-level Gattinara. Captivating aromas and flavors of almost liqueur-like red berries, violet, red rose and marzipan. Made in a sweet, supple style, with impressive concentration to the flavors. Finishes dense and juicy, with sophisticated but still youthful tannins. This comprises a selection of grapes coming from three of the estate's best vineyards, located in different sub-areas of Gattinara and at different altitudes.
Medium red with an amber rim. Aromas of red cherry, violet and marzipan. Intensely flavored but light on its feet, with classic nebbiolo energy and flavors of red fruits and tar on the fresh, smooth palate.
