Darnley's Gin

Darnley's Gin is a product of a family recipe and captures the moment in 1565 when Mary Queen of Scots spied her future husband, Lord Darnley, through the courtyard window at Wemyss Castle. From this marriage came a prince who later united the thrones of England and Scotland as James VI and Ist. We want to create a completely authentic gin in gins historic home; one which would appeal to those who appreciate the history and provenance of this iconic white spirit.

Darnley’s Gin is made using only natural ingredients; the best botanicals, the freshest Scottish water, and pure spirit. We believe that by respecting the ingredients gifted to us by nature, and not using colors, sweeteners or artificial flavorings, we can create gin that brings a nuanced and authentic taste to your glass. Darnley’s Gin is made with six carefully selected Botanicals (juniper, elderflower, lemon peel, orris root, coriander and angelica root). These botanicals are either grown by ourselves, foraged locally or sourced from trusted growers around the world. The botanicals are steeped in the base spirit, allowing the essential oils and flavors to be released before going through a 5x distillation process. Darnley’s Gin is made in a traditional 350L copper pot still (named Dorothy) using the centuries old London Dry method.

Our recipe for Darnley’s Original was inspired by elderflower growing wild around the Wemyss family estate in Scotland. A burst of zesty citrus on the palate, followed by juniper, mellow spice and subtle notes of elderflower. A long and dry finish, with a twist of floral and fruit characters from the elderflower.
