A True Italian Icon From Le Marche

Vineyard at sunset - Fazi Battaglia

For over 70 years, Fazi Battaglia has been synonymous with inimitable Italian style, exceptional quality, and a celebratory way of life. Founded in 1949, the estate lies in central Italy’s Le Marche region, in the historic town of Cupramontana. As for the Fazi Battaglia name origin, it comes from the Fazi and Battaglia families, who united to form the winery.

In the 1950s, the renowned Angelini family invested heavily in the business, helping take Fazi Battaglia wines to a new level of excellence. Today, the team cultivates 130 hectares / 321 acres of vineyards in Le Marche’s renowned Castelli di Jesi DOC(G). The estate mostly grows verdicchio, the region’s star grape variety, which produces some of the best white wine from Italy, but the team also farms the red grape variety montepulciano.

Both the estate’s white and rosato wines reflect the beauty and history of their homeland. Fazi Battaglia wines have crisp, fresh, and elegant profiles — a result of the cool climate of Le Marche, which lies between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains. Winemaking in the region dates back thousands of years and was heavily influenced by the Etruscans. From that tradition, the Fazi Battaglia team took inspiration for its signature amphora-shaped bottles, which they created in 1953. Even the winery’s barrels have been decorated in gorgeous “New Italian Mannerism” artwork by local painter Bruno d’Arcevia, which gives a modern twist to the Renaissance style.

Every aspect of Fazi Battaglia’s handcrafted wines represent their unique, central Italian culture. Thanks their artful approach and dedication to quality, the estate continues to be an iconic, global ambassador for the Le Marche region and verdicchio wines.

Le Marche:

A Region of History, Beauty, and Quality

Located in central Italy, the Le Marche region stretches from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennine Mountains. Influenced by the Etruscans, Romans, and Lombards, winemaking here dates back thousands of years. The Fazi Battaglia estate lies in the heart of Le Marche’s prized Castelli di Jesi DOC, in the small town of Cupramontana. With a medieval castle at its center and rolling hills of vineyards all around, Cupramontana is steeped in history and natural beauty. These characters are embodied in Fazi Battaglia’s elegant wines — including their amphora-shaped bottles, which were inspired by the containers Etruscans used to store wine.

Fazi Battaglia Wines Reflect the Cool Climate of Le Marche

Tucked between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains, the Le Marche wine region benefits from a uniquely cool, maritime climate. Fazi Battaglia cultivates 130 hectares / 321 acres of vineyards in the renowned Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC(G), home to the world’s finest verdicchio wines. The estate also farms montepulciano grapes, from which they produce lovely rosato wines.

Fazi Battaglia’s vineyards grow in Le Marche’s calcareous, limestone-rich soils, which give structure and complexity to the final wines. Just 40 kilometers / 25 miles from the Adriatic, the vineyards experience fresh sea breezes and cooling fog rolling in from the east to blanket the vines. The nearby Apennines also keep temperatures low. Together, the sea and mountain influences allow grapes to retain freshness and develop high acidity, resulting in crisp, clean, and elegant wines.

Led by Head Winemaker Mirco Pompili

Head winemaker Mirco Pompili leads the talented Fazi Battaglia winery team. He graduated from the A. Checchi Agricultural Technical Institute of Pesaro, before spending several years in the agricultural industry, in both wine and horticulture. Since joining Fazi Battaglia in 1991, Mirco has helped the company become synonymous with “made in Italy” quality. Today, he proudly oversees the winery’s entire technical department.

Artful Winemaking from Barrel to Bottle

The Fazi Battaglia winery has made winemaking an artform — literally. In the cellar rest special barriques, hand painted by Bruno d’Arcevia, a famous Italian painter and Castelli di Jesi native. Painted in Bruno d’Arcevia’s signature style of “New Italian Mannerism,” an homage to the Renaissance era, the paintings perfectly represent Fazi Battaglia’s winemaking style, which marries time-honored Italian traditions with modern elegance.

At every step of the winemaking process, head winemaker Mirco Pompili and his team strive to capture the wines’ natural essence. The hand-picked grapes receive a gentle pressing to extract the purest juice. Cold maceration and fermentation at low temperatures preserve freshness, while aging on the lees adds crispness and complexity to the wines. As the finishing touch, the wines are bottled in Fazi Battaglia’s iconic amphora-shaped bottle and affixed with an informational scroll that shares the estate’s story with its customers.
