Background

Jean-Luc Colombo has been a renowned enologist in the Rhône Valley since the early 1980s. His consultations at prestigious estates across the Rhône quickly earned him a reputation for helping produce incredible expressions of this rugged terroir. But his greatest contribution to the wine world is the exceptional wines he crafts alongside his wife, Anne, and daughter, Laure. The Cornas-based Colombo winery has earned impressive international recognition bringing modern viticultural practices to the region — and for creating beautifully concentrated, balanced, and fresh styles of syrah. Living among their vineyards and wetlands, the family have been committed to sustainable farming, achieving organic certification for their estate vineyards from Ecocert in 2016.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are hand-harvested and de-stemmed. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aged sur lie in oak (15% new; 85% in one- to four-year old barrels) for ten months. Weekly stirring of lees followed by malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Notes

Complex nose of apricots, pear, acacia and soft spices accompanied by hints of vanilla. On the palate, rich, powerful, and aromatic with a long and elegant finish; intense flavors of lychee nut, peach and exotic fruit.

92
Points

Fruity aromas of ripe yellow peaches, zesty orange oil, lemon peels, succulent apricots and fresh honey make for a delightful nose. On the palate, it maintains its invigorating freshness, featuring perfectly ripened orchard fruits, citrus zest, stony minerality and a hint of white peppercorn on the finish. —A.C.C.

Points

An opulent, exuberant style, this seduces with forward floral, yellow peach and mango laced with ginger and dried apricot. Delivers dried green herbs and bitter minerality that offer a nice counterpoint on the silky smooth palate, which glides through with an almost glycerol texture. Zesty minerals and spices line the finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases made, 100 cases imported. -K.B.
