Background

Jean-Luc Colombo has been a renowned enologist in the Rhône Valley since the early 1980s. His consultations at prestigious estates across the Rhône quickly earned him a reputation for helping produce incredible expressions of this rugged terroir. But his greatest contribution to the wine world is the exceptional wines he crafts alongside his wife, Anne, and daughter, Laure. The Cornas-based Colombo winery has earned impressive international recognition bringing modern viticultural practices to the region — and for creating beautifully concentrated, balanced, and fresh styles of syrah. Living among their vineyards and wetlands, the family have been committed to sustainable farming, achieving organic certification for their estate vineyards from Ecocert in 2016.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

La Redonne is the name of a picturesque cove in the “Cote Bleue” where Jean-Luc Colombo spent his youth. This Northern Rhône Valley Côtes du Rhône comes from gravelly, alluvial terraces with 20- year-old Voigner vines from south of Condrieu, and Roussanne from 30-year-old vines near the appellation of St. Joseph.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are harvested manually in small baskets and vinified in stainless steel tanks. 20% of the wine is matured on its lees in two- or three-year-old barrels; 80% is matured on its lees in tanks to enhance freshness. The wine is aged for 12 months.

Tasting Notes

The Viognier brings finesse and floral aromas with tropical fruit while the Roussanne brings a creamy mouthfeel with notes of pear, almond and a touch of herbal tea. It is rich yet has firm acidity with notes of green apple and lemon.

90
Points

This is a 70/30 blend of Viognier and Roussanne that balances Viognier’s floral exuberance and richness with subtle notes of Roussanne’s chamomile and white pear characteristics. While dry and full bodied with a luscious, clinging mouthfeel, it’s balanced by zesty strikes of lemon mand green-apple acidity. Best now–2025. —A.I.
