Background

The Rothschild family has been producing wine in Bordeaux since 1868 and know this beautiful landscape and understand the unique traits of the vines from each appellation. The family was inspired to create a new wine series, where each wine would be the epitome of the appellation it came from. Their motivation was simple: to ensure wine lovers everywhere could dive into Bordeaux and taste the originality of each appellation. And so, the Les Légendes range was born. The production of Les Légendes is supervised by oenologist Diane Flamand and has benefited from Diane’s ambition to create long-term partnerships with vineyard growers around each appellation. Diane creates wines following the same approach as the Rothschild family: passion, discipline, humility, excellence, and harmony. Generations of local knowledge have taught our grape growers the secrets of the landscape that create the most outstanding Bordeaux Rouge. Nestled between the Garonne and the Dordogne River lies the Entre-Deux-Mers. This hilly region boasts a variety of soils, giving a great diversity of terroirs that are perfectly suited to our grapes. This unique landscape is what creates the harmonious blend of flavors bursting from our Bordeaux Rouge.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Les Légendes Bordeaux rouge comes from the Entre-deux-Mers region. This vast territory offers a diversity of terroirs and soils, ranging from chalky-clay plots well suited for Merlot, to well-exposed gravelous slopes. The vintage had with a very mild winter encouraging an early bud break. The spring was very wet and rainy, causing coulure in some grape varieties and a significant threat of downy mildew. During the summer, a heat wave checked the grapes’ ripening, particularly on the left bank with its gravelly, permeable soil. The harvests in 2020 were historically early.

Winemaking & Aging

This wine in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation (82°F) was followed by 15 days of maceration, in order to obtain a good concentration of oak (30% of the final blend). This wine is subtly oaked, in order to keep a good balance between the fruit and the wood.

Tasting Notes

Beautiful color, with dark glints. The nose is fruity, with aromas of dark berries (blackberries, blackcurrants) and Morello cherries. The palate is dense, harmonious, and balanced with a very aromatic finish (notes of liquorice and candied liquorice).
