Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

The vines come from several selected vineyards: Old vines (50+ years) from the region of Ribeauvillé locality Trottacker which has deep clay-limestone soil; In Bergheim a site called Gruenspiel on from the Keuper marls; In Hunawihr, a site called Muehlforst marl-calcaire soils on a shelly limestone substrate of Muschelkalk with a southern and South East exposure. Vintage 2015 showed a mild winter, ample rainfall. Mid-budburst took place in April with flowering in early June. The heat of June and July favored vine growth, then a period of drought set in. Mid-August rains provided relief resumption of growth and accelerated ripening of the grapes which were perfectly healthy for the harvest.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes are selected when fully ripe, delicately pressed in a pneumatic press. Vinified in stainless steel tanks, no malolactic fermentation or long aging on lees in order to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas. Bottled the on. the following spring followed by 6 years aging in the cellar.

Tasting Notes

Bouquet of superb complexity with citrus, spices, ginger, and pastry aromas. Dry style with delicate acidity, beautiful ripeness, and great length. A gastronomic with -- rich and fruity with a soft texture.

Fresh cloves and white pepper. Apple and pear too. Full body, intense fruit with an oily texture yet fresh and vivid. White flowers too. Drink now. - J.S.

This classic, robust gewurz goes all out with rose-petal and litchi fruit aromas, then bold and mouth-filling flavors of grapefruit and melon. Full-bodied and lightly sweet, it's a scene stealer. Drink or hold. -J.S.

Made from old vines cultivated on predominantly Keuper marl-limestone soils and only produced in the best years, the yellow-golden colored 2015 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs Ribeaupierre opens with an intensely aromatic and dense bouquet with medium richness and complexity. On the palate, this is a very elegant, refined and rich as well as complex and sustainable Gewurz with orange flavors on the round and elegant, well balanced and structured finish. Due to its fine tannin grip and in particular the saline and vibrantly fresh salinity, the 2015 tastes less sweet than one might fear. In fact, it is a great gastronomic wine to be matched with spicy and aromatic dishes or as a dessert itself. Mango and other tropical aromas pulsate on the stimulating aftertaste. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023. -S.R.

Bright pale golden yellow. Aromas of mango, grapefruit and sweet spices. Then more tropical fruit and honey in the mouth; lovely, stony freshness provides noteworthy clarity and cut. Much denser and richer than the entry-level Gewürz but also boasts better delineation thanks to greater acidity. Fantastic Gewürz in the making. Really a step up in concentration from the Réserve, this reminded me a bit of 1971’s Gewürzes. This wine won’t be sold for another four years as Trimbach is currently selling the 2008.I.D.
