Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Produced since the 1960's and named for an ancestor of the Trimbach family, Frédéric Émile Riesling has always been produced from a single plot which straddles Grands Crus Osterberg and Geisberg in Ribeauvillé, overlooking the winery. The plot has marl-calcaro-sandstone soils, south-southeast exposure, steep slope, and old vines 55+ years old. 2018 was rainy, during both winter and spring. July was very hot and dry. Light rains at the end of August helped to relieve the vines and improve the ripeness. The harvest conditions were absolutely exceptional, quality and quantity both present.

Winemaking & Aging

The grapes are crushed and delicately pressed in a pneumatic press, then vinified to dryness in stainless steel vats and old casks. No MLF, or long aging on lees in order to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas. The wine was bottled in spring. After seven years of aging in the cellar the wine expresses all its potential to develop further, expressing its terroir, with aging potential of 20+ years.

Tasting Notes

Great aromatic complexity on the nose, with citrus, white flowers, apricots, wild peaches and yellow plum. Opulent and precise wine, characteristic from its terroirs. This Frédéric Emile has a superb broad mouthfeel, linked to the warm vintage of 2018, and has a refined mineral length.
