Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Brand in Turckheim is one of the most reputed Grand Cru of Alsace. It is established on 58ha and has south/south-eastern exposures. It is a warm terroir (Brand is literally translated to “fire”) formed of two micas granit. Trimbach’s parcel of nearly 1ha is 100% planted in Riesling. Vines average around 65 years.2018 was a warm and sunny vintage. Rain during the first months of the year helped the soils to build water reserves. Summer was hot and dry; harvests were early.

Winemaking & Aging

Grapes were harvested at maturity then crushed and delicately pressed in a pneumatic press. Vinified in a dry style in stainless steel vats and old casks. No malolactic, or long ageing on lees in order to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas. Bottled in the spring following the harvests, then three years of ageing minimum in cellar.

Tasting Notes

Grand Cru Brand Riesling is crystal clear on the nose, with citrus and exotic aromatics. The palate is generous, concentrated and full-bodied, with a beautiful tension. The granit terroir imparts a focused and dry style, but also precision and a wonderful salinity at the end.

Points

Offers a rich, fleshy profile, with an attractive mix of steeped yellow plum, jasmine tea and earthy undertones of white mocha and marjoram. Well-cut, with juicy acidity adding balance through the fleur de sel–flecked finish. Finely meshed, with impressive mineral depth and power. Drink now through 2032. 380 cases made, 100 cases imported. -K.B.

This vibrant white is focused by vivid acidity and a savory mineral elements. Crisp flavors of apple, Mexican gherkins, quince blossom and lemon zest are layered and nuanced. This is broad in shoulders, but moves gracefully, presenting a velvety mouthfeel. Taub Family Selections. —A.Z.
