Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Pierre Trimbach and his team have been working the Grand Cru Geisberg behind the domaine for years. Previously this parcel was dedicated to being assembled with with GC Osterberg into the famous Frédéric Émile. 2009 was the first Grand Cru Geisberg produced. One of the three smaller Grand Crus in Alsace, it is only 8.53 ha. The Trimbach’s 2.6 ha plot is on limestone and dolomite marl soil, with old vines over 50 years old, small terraces with steep slopes facing south - creating a unique terroir.

Winemaking & Aging

The grapes are selected at maturity then crushed and delicately pressed in a pneumatic press. Vinified in a dry style in stainless steel vats. No malolactic fermentation or long aging on lees in order to preserve freshness, liveliness and fruity aromas.

Tasting Notes

Pronounced aromas of citrus, candied fruit, honey and bergamot. The acidity is precise and, coupled with optimal ripeness, provides a juicy sensation of fresh lemon. Fantastic energy and structure with saline mineral notes. Delicious in its youth, it is a wine that can be kept for over 20 years and which will then reveal all the richness and complexity of its terroir.

Cellar Selection

Floral notes play about the peachy nose of this wine that is shot through with lemon freshness. The dry palate follows the lemon theme and then turns into a concentrated agent of freshness, depth and incisiveness. It’s an uncompromising and bone-dry Riesling. Drink 2025–2045. —A.K.

Round with some nice richness to Meyer lemon, peach and apricot with fresh pine highlights. A spine of savory, petroly, pithy acidity and crushed flint gives this well-defined structure. Savory, long and impressive. Drink now through 2030. —K.B.

Bright golden-tinged straw. Aromas and flavors of orange oil, apple and anise. Enters round and sweet, then turns very austere and precise, revealing a licorice note that lingers on the tactile, savory finish. Deep and refined, this will improve markedly with a couple of years in the cellar. - I.D.

Harmonious nose of white fruit, citrus, rose petals, ginger and mineral undertones. Steely on the mouth, showing tension and minerality and a complex long finish. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028. – R.P., M.O.W., E.Z.
