Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Grapes for Vendanges Tardives are left on the vine until they begin to dehydrate, allowing the sugars and phenolic compounds to concentrate. Sourced from the Ribeauville Grands Crus of Kirschberg and Osterberg, located above the Trimbach winery.

Winemaking & Aging

Fermented in stainless steel, with no malolactic fermentation to preserve natural fruit acidity, followed by three months aging before and estate bottling. Bottles remain in the cellar for several years before release, ensuring the wines are both ready to drink but also hold great aging potential,10–15 years or more.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow with aromas of honey, apricot, toast, spices, vanilla, marzipan and butter. Aromatic components carry through to the palate, which finishes with strong fruit flavors and excellent grip.

Year's Best Alsatian Wines

This pinot gris has aged into its succulent and generous ripeness, the lees transformed to hazelnut richness, the wine elegant on a grand scale. Along with cheeses and nuts, this will elevate an after-dinner conversation. Or the baker on our tasting panel suggested the wine as a counterpoint to a walnut-orange tart drizzled with bitter chocolate. – J.G.
