Background

Since 1626, the Trimbach family have been a reference point for fine Alsace wine. They are also one of the largest owners of Grand Cru vineyards in the region which account for an impressive third of their total production. At every level, their wines embody the celebrated Trimbach style: structured, long-lived, fruit-driven, dry, elegant, and above all balanced. Family is also central to everyday life at Trimbach. Winemaking is expertly managed by 12th-generation Pierre, alongside his nephew Julien.  Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, are global brand ambassadors. In 2023, Trimbach was certified HVE-3 Organic reflecting their dedication to creating the highest-caliber expressions of their terroir.

TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES

Only produced in exceptional years, this wine comes from the best parcels of the Rotenberg vineyard in Ribeauvillé. Rotenberg’s terroir for Pinot Noir is red irony clay similar to Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets in Burgundy. The clones come from a Massale selection of Pommard Clos des Epenots. The Pinot Noir Reserve Personelle has a lower yield as some Grand Crus from Burgundy at 30-35 hl/ha.

Winemaking & Aging

The Pinot Noirs are the only Trimbach wines which undergo malolactic fermentation (in tank) and they are bottled after 6 months ageing on the fine lees while in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of wild strawberries and raspberry compote, with an element of minerality and notes of earth and mushroom. The wine is soft and lush on the palate crisp with fruit flavors and red fruits. This is a wine a wine of great maturity and opulence with succulent fruit. The long development of the wine is synonymous with its long ageing potential - 10 years or more.

Intense notes of crushed red cherry and fruits of the forest dominate the nose. The slender and refreshing palate presents those same cherry and berry notes in a streamlined, almost taut fashion. This wine is fresh, linear and very elegant, with lovely balance on the finish. - A.K.

There’s quite an idiosyncratic note here of dried hibiscus and fruit tea. The full-bodied palate comes in a juicier, riper style with a softer serving of acidity. Good length and complexity though. Drink now. - J.S.

Deep ruby. Rich aromas and flavors of red cherry and blueberry plus hints of Asian spices and iron. Clean, fresh and juicy, showing lovely weight and precision, not to mention very good cut. Closes long, with lingering spice and stony notes. All estate-grown grapes from the Rodern site (well known in Alsace for good Pinot Noir grapes) and Ribeauvillé. This wine’s curious name derives from the first time it was made; it was sitting in cuve number 7 and the name stuck (otherwise it would have been labeled as a Reserve Personelle). - I.D.
