Vigna La Villa Barolo Paiagallo DOCG

Since 1858, the Fontanafredda Estate & Winery has been instrumental to the growth and international awareness of Barolo, while championing sustainability and community engagement in the Langhe region of Piedmont. Under the lead of visionary entrepreneur, Oscar Farinetti, Fontanafredda has built a portfolio of wines that express the depth and diversity of the Langhe, produced from grapes that are farmed from organic and sustainably managed vineyards. Since the 2018 harvest, Fontanafredda is the largest certified organic winery in Piedmont.

In the heart of the M.G.A. Paiagallo, one of the most historic vineyards of Fontanafredda finds its home. It takes the name from the royal farmhouse at the bottom of the vineyard, located in Paiagallo M.G.A. on a tongue of land rich in silt, sand and clay, at 320-370m a.s.l., with eastern and southern exposures.

Harvest takes place at the end of the second week of October. Upon reaching full maturity, the grapes are delivered to the winery in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the berries. They are immediately destemmed in steel tanks where fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts. At the end of this phase the must is left for a few more days in contact with the skins to extract additional tannins and compounds, adding to the structure of the wine. Aged for 30 months in oak barrels, followed by eight months in bottle.

The nose shows hints of small red and black fruits reminiscent of blackberry and cherry. The palate has a great richness, sweet tannins and a long finish. A great Barolo that combines complexity and integrity with elegance and harmony, reflecting of its terroir.
